Compress PDF online

Make a PDF smaller while keeping it readable — or aim for an exact size in KB.

Temporarily unavailable

A program this tool depends on isn't available on the server right now, so it can't run. Other tools may still work — try the tool directory.

Large PDFs are hard to email and slow to upload to application portals. This free PDF compressor re-encodes the images inside your document and strips wasteful data to bring the file size down, while keeping text sharp and the layout intact. You can pick a quality preset or set an exact target size (for example 100 KB or 200 KB) and the tool searches for the best quality that still fits.

Everything runs on our server over an encrypted connection; your uploaded file is deleted immediately after processing, and there's no sign-up, no watermark and no email required.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress a PDF to a specific size like 100 KB?
Enter your target in the Target size box (or tap a preset like 100 KB), then compress. The tool binary-searches the highest image quality whose output still fits your target. If a file genuinely can't reach the target — for example a text-only scan with little to remove — it returns the smallest version it could produce and tells you the size it reached. A target is a goal, not a guarantee.
Will compressing reduce the quality of my PDF?
Text and vector content stay crisp. Only the embedded images are re-encoded, and on the High preset the difference is usually hard to notice. Lower presets and very small size targets trade more visible image quality for a smaller file. If your PDF is already well-optimised, we keep your original rather than hand back a larger file.
Is it safe and private?
Your file is uploaded over HTTPS, processed on our server, and the upload is removed right after. The generated result is cleaned up automatically by a periodic job. We never share your files and no account is needed. See our Privacy Policy.
Why is my scanned PDF still large after compressing?
Scans are full-page photos, so size comes almost entirely from image data. We reduce it as far as the quality ladder allows, but a readable scan has a practical floor. Lowering the target further, or reducing the maximum image dimension, will shrink it more at the cost of sharpness.
Is there a file size limit?
Yes — see the size shown on the upload box. For most documents and application forms it is far more than you'll need.
